Twisted Virtue

“A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.” —Samuel Adams

I think we’ve lost a whole lot of virtue in this nation. The current ‘virtues’ of political correctness and tolerance are not really virtues.

Take a look at many of the 'peaceniks' since the days of Vietnam... In many instances these are people who have very little moral compass in their own lives, yet self-righteously proclaim, 'Live and let live." Would they ever bother to lift a finger in order to save their own loved ones from danger? Is it a greater sin to allow your children to be tortured and killed than to kill an enemy, a genuine threat to your life and liberty?

Do the stoner peace-proclaimers know what sharia law is, and would they be fine with living in submission to Islam?

They do not really care about peace. If so, they would work to make the world more peaceful instead of letting barbarians trample all over innocent people. They are just lazy.

I hear many claim that we should 'pray for peace' and have compassion on our enemies. Well, are these peace preachers showing compassion for barbarians -- guys who laugh maniacally and shout, "Allah Allah Allah!" as they set themselves on fire -- at the expense of their own?

Of course we should always pray for peace, pray for people to turn their hearts toward what is good. But when they don't, when they are hell-bent on our destruction, I think God expects us to take a stand and protect our lives, liberties and freedom of religion. Prayer alone will not feed the poor widow next door. It will not keep a murderer from killing again.

This quote can also apply to the massive influx of illegal immigrants who, by not assimilating or even respecting our laws and culture, are changing us into a nation of divided cultures and languages -- one in which we no longer band together as Americans. We no longer trust or understand each other. And laws are subjugated to a version of 'tolerance' that elevates the desires of one group above another. It is not true tolerance to put up with something that harms or robs from others. If I tolerate a crackhead living in my home, I am robbing my own family of safety.

Sure, others bring pieces of their native cultures that are enriching to our nation, but along with that often comes a sense that all government is always corrupt and runs only on bribery, violence or totalitarian control. (This is especially true of those coming here illegally -- laws and respectfulness do not matter to them.) We are gradually losing sight of the values that created our nation and made it a place of opportunity and prosperity. Our own politicians are fomenting this by playing to special interests or agendas that may not be for the common good. They care more about slinging mud across the aisle than protecting the nation.

Anyway... I've gone on more than needed here. Happy Independence Day! (I mean for the United States, not one of the numerous Mexican 'Independence Day' celebrations that are an excuse to get drunk.)
